Triratna is a Sanskrit word, which literally means – Three gems

In Pali language, it is written as Ti-Ratan. It also has triad or triple refuge, which is the three components of Buddhism and Jainism.

Three gems of Jainism, also called Ratnatriya. They are recognized in the form of proper philosophy, right knowledge and proper character. None of these can exist without the other two, and the three are essential for spiritual salvation.

Buddhism Triratna – Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha

  • Buddha – who is awake and knowledgeable.
  • Dhamma – Those teachings of Buddha.
  • Sangha- the organization of Buddhist monks and Buddhist worshipers.

Jainism Triratna – proper knowledge, samyak philosophy, right conduct.

  • Proper knowledge – Knowledge of right and wrong is only due to knowledge.
  • Samyak Darshan – The only revered reverence for real knowledge is only philosophy.
  • Proper character (behavior) – the prohibition of harmful actions and conduct of good works is the only character.
