Sources of study of history of ancient India

History of India-

  • The word “history” is composed of three words of Sanskrit language.

1.Iti -similarly, 2.hai – fixed 3.As- tha

it means – that was exactly the same, that is, we can say that the events which have definitely decreased in the past, that is history.

  • Herododus is called the father of history. Greek historian Herodotus was born in 484 B.C. In Asia Minor’s Helicarnasus.

1. Archaeological sources-

The work of archaeological work in India was done by the Europeans. Alexander Cunningham is said to be the father of Indian archeology for his invaluable contribution in the field of archeology.

2. Literary Sources-

Literary sources are divided into two parts-

  • Religious literature
  • Cosmic literature

Religious literature is also divided into two parts

  • Brahmin literature-

In Brahman literature, Vedas, Brahman Granth, Aranyak, Upanishad, Vedanga, Sutras, Epics, Smriti Gramas, Puranas etc. come.

  • Brahmantra literature-
