The Economic system of the Rigvedic era
Economic system- Rigvedic Arya was associated with rural culture.
- Animal husbandry was the main basis of the economy.
- Cows, horses were sacred and important animals.
- Bullocks, sheep, dogs were also petted by the Aryans. They were also familiar with camels and elephants.
- The Rig Veda does not mention the tiger.
- The cow has considered the most important and the horse was in second place.
- Agriculture was considered a secondary occupation. In Rigveda, agriculture is said to be inferior. In the entire Rig Veda, agriculture is only mentioned in 24 stanzas and 33 times the word agriculture was used.
- Prayers were made to the Rigvedic Gods to protect the animals.
- The tools like wooden plow, Fall, etc. were used in agriculture.
- Artificial irrigation is also mentioned. Many words related to agriculture are found like – Aval = Well, Kulla = Canal, Parjanya = Cloud.
- Agricultural production was limited.
- Agricultural was subsistence economy .
- Sita – the line of the plow
- Urver– Plowed farm
- Yaw – Barley – The only crop was barley.
- Dhanya – cereals
- Keevaash-Halwala
- Karishu – compost.
- There were no wheat and rice during the Rigvedic period.
- The Rigveda mentions Aryans 33 times.
The Pusan deity- was the god related to road construction, pastoral and animal husbandry.
