Famous Temple of Bheetargaov

The temple of Bheetargaov is located in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. This temple is built of bricks. The temple is built on a square platform. Its sanctum is square. There is a pavilion in front of the sanctum. Like the temple of Devgarh, Dashavatar the temple of Bheetargaov is also peaked, whose summit was about 70 feet high.

The tower has arched arches. The outer walls contain statues of Ganesha of Hindu deities such as Ganesha, Aadivaraah, Durga, river deity etc. At the same time the walls decorated with various narratives of Ramayana, Mahabharata and Puranas. The entire composition is grand and attractive. Apart from being the oldest example of datum-stone arch found in India, the temple of inner village also provides the oldest example of brick-built building.

Another temple built by bricks is obtained from a place called Sirpur in Raipur district of Madhya Pradesh. The only sanctum temple. At the entrance, the embellishments of the Gupta period are found on the top and the door. The remains of two more temples- Ram and Janaki temple- also found near this temple.
