History of Aryans: Arts and Crafts

Crafts – Industries: Cotton was not produced in the Rigvedic period. Even then, women used to work in knitting clothes. Women who weaving clothes were called Sheeree( सीरी ). Mainly woolen fabrics were made. Leather and cotton clothes also used to wear.

  • Leatherworker – Charmann
  • Woodworker – was called a carpenter or Takshan.
  • Barber, who worked as a barber, was called Vapta.
  • Knitting worker – Tantuvam (weaver)

Work of Metallurgy – The people of the Vedic period had knowledge of 3 metals – gold, copper, bronze.

  • Ayas- Ayas was used for copper and bronze items.
  • Gold- Gold jewelry named Nisk.

There was no caste system in Rigveda. Anasya Balikrata (The only one taxpayer)- Vaishya.

Trade – commerce- Anaryans named Pani was associated with commerce – trade who was famous for the skimp despite their richness. These were mentioned as enemies of the Aryans because these people stole cows of the Aryans.

  • In the last part of the Rig Veda, a permanent caste came for trade commerce which was called Vaishya.
  • The barter system was in vogue in Rig Veda. Generally, for this, cow, Nisk (gold), gold jewelry, were used.
  • The currency system was not developed at this time.
  • Words such as Ashtkarni, Shatdaya get information that the Aryans had the knowledge of numbers.
  • Arya was familiar with 5 seasons (not from Hemant). 5 seasons- Winter, Summer, Rain, Shishir, Spring.
  • The process of letting on interest was prevalent.
  • The slave system was also in prevalent in society. But the slaves were used in domestic activities, not in economic activities.

Becanat (Soodkhor) was that lenders who used to take a lot of Interest.
