Ishanvarma (Maukhari ruler)

The credit for bringing the Maukharis to a position independent of the feudal status goes to the ruler Ishanavarma. Who ruled from 550 to 574 AD. He was the son of Ishwarvarma. Ishanavarma assumed the title of Maharajadhiraj. Ishanavarma’s independent status is revealed by this title.

The Haraha inscription gives the details of Ishanavarma’s victories as follows- He conquered the aandhraadhipati , whose army had thousands of thousands of elephants, the Schulikas, whose army had numerous horse, he won his throne by defeating the war in the ground, and forcing the cows to relinquish their relationship with the land and take shelter of the sea in the future.

Among these defeated powers, the Andhra is identified with the Vishnukundin dynasty of the eastern Deccan.
