History of Harsh and South India

Harsh carried out a military campaign south of the Narmada River. Conquered Kuntal, Chola, Kanchi in the southern part of the Narmada River. This campaign of Harsh happened after the death of Pulakeshin II i.e. around 643 AD. In this expedition he took the Cholas and Pallav kings under his control.

History of the Pallav Kings.

Harsh did not merge the states of the far south into his empire. The purpose of Harsh was only to make those kings accept their subjection. Harsh’s campaign in South India was similar, as was Samudragupt’s expedition to Dakshinapath.

Samudragupt later went to conquer Kuntal. The region of Kuntal was under the authority of Pulakeshin II. After the death of Pulakeshin II, there was chaos in the Chalukya kingdom, taking advantage of this chaos, Harsh conquered some western parts of the Chalukya kingdom along with Kuntal Pradesh.
