Pottery art in the Gupta Period

Pottery art progressed during the Gupta Period. Kumbhakars of this period made small statues of baked clay.They have smoothness and goodness. The majority of the deities of Vishnu, Kartikey, Durga, Ganga, Yamuna etc. have been obtained from place like Pahadpur, Rajghat, Bhitaa, Kaushambi, Shravasti, Powaiya, Ahichchhatra, Mathura etc. Along with religious statues also find many cosmic statues from these places.

Pahadpur has many sculptures related to krishna leelas. Among the sculptures of Ahichchhatra, the sculptures of GangaYamuna and the beautifull head of Parvati can be mentioned. some of sculptures exhibit high-quality workmanship. The chariot has a depiction of the sun sitting on a round pane.Seven horses are pulling the chariot. The two goddesses Usha and Pratyusha are scattered light.

Some of the mrinphalak mark the major events of Shiva’s life, such as the demolition of the Yajna of Daksha, holding is vikraal bhairava form, Lakuleesh form Dakshinamurthi Rupi form,etc. very efficiently. A statue of jatajutdhari Shiva’s head has been found from Shravasti. Similarly, a large woman-statue can be mentioned in the Shravasti statue.Two children are sitting with him and a cast of laddus is displayed near him.
