History of Adityasen

He was the son of Madhavagupta and after his death became the Chakravarti ruler of Magadha. He was a brave warrior and a skilled administrator. His suzerainty over Magadha is attested by the writings of Afsdh and Shahpur. Mandarparvat’s article gives a information of his authority over the organ area. As a result of his victories, he assumed the title of Parambhattaraka Maharajadhiraja.

It has been said in the Afsad article, that he protects this world and the whole earth is always covered by his leaks.

The Mandsaur article shows that he performed three Ashwamedha Yajna. Adityasen had another inscription on Mount Mandar, which has subsequently been removed from there. And presently the stone on which the article is inscribed, The famous temple of Vaidyanath is installed in the deodhi. It gives a detailed description of the victories of Adityasen. This shows that Adityasen conquered the Chol kingdom.

Variety of Yajna

He went on pilgrimage to the Chol kingdom, Where he received gifts from the kings of the south. His jurisdiction extended eastward to the bay of Bengal and the Brahmaputra River. On the west side, the kingdom of Adityasen consisted of a vast tract of Agra and Awadh in Uttar Pradesh.

Thus Adityasen was the first ruler to establish a vast empire under Magadha after Harsh’s death.

He revived the tradition of his erstwhile Gupta emperors. During his reign, the Chinese ambassador Vaan Huen-Tse visited India twice and was assisted by Adityasen in about 655–675 AD.

Religion of Adityasen

According to the Buddhist traveler Hui-lun of Korea, he built a Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya. In the Devbarnak article, Adityasen has been called Param Bhagwat. Which is the proof of his being a Vaishnav. This title was also assumed by the Chakravarti Gupta rulers. According to the Afsdh article, he built Vishnumandir. But despite being a Vaishnav himself, he was tolerant of other religions as a king.
