History of the Post Gupta Ruler(Kumargupt)

The Fourth king of the North Gupta dynasty was Kumargupta, the son of Jivitgupt. During this period this dynasty was free from feudal status. He was a powerful king, who assumed the title of Maharajadhiraj. Praising his power in the Afsdh article, he has been called the forerunner among the heroes.

His rival Maukhri Naresh Ishanverma was equally ambitious. In such a situation it was possible to have conflict between the two.

The article Afshdh presents a poetic depiction of the war between the two, Which is as follows: Kumaragupta churned the huge army like the Ksheer Sagar of Ishanavarma in the battle field in the same way as the Kashi Sagar was churned by the Mandarachala mountain in the Devasur Sangram.

It is clear from this that Kumargupt was victorious in the war. As a result of this victory, the empire of kumargupt extended to Prayag in the west along the banks of the Ganga River. The Afsdh article shows that he died in Prayag. Rulers like Dhang and Gangeydev were also killed in a similar manner. This practice was considered sacred at that time. This is also described by Hientsang.
