Harsh was not only a winner and administrator, but also a scholar. For the poetic skill, originality and detailed knowledge Harsh, Baan paid tribute to him. Itsing also tells that Harsh was literary person. He was also responsible for the poetic compositions of his courtiers.

Education and literature in Harsh period.

Itsing states that five hundred poems related to the backward births of Buddha were offered to the king (Harsh) and became famous as Jatakamala. Itsing explain that Harsh poems the story of the Bodhisattva jeemut vehicle. Jayadev has said in his work Geet Govindam that Harsh was also a great poet like Kalidas and Bhasa.

Harsh is considered the author of three drama texts of Sanskrit, the following three texts are-

  1. Priyadarsika
  2. Ratnavali
  3. Naganand
