Vakataka of Basim Branch

The Basim branch of the vakataka dynasty was founded in 330 AD by Sarvasen, the younger son of Emperor Pravarsen I. He Established an independent kingdom for himself in a place called Vatsagulm. Vatsagulm was located in modern Basim in Akola district of Maharashtra. For this reason, this branch is called Vatsagulm or Basim branch.

The Copper Sheet of Vindhyashakti II, ruler of Basim branch has been received. The names of some rulers of this branch are found in an article from the sixteenth cave of Ajanta.

Sarvasen ruled for a short time and there is not much information about the events of his reign. After the Sarvasen his son Vindhyashakti II (350-400 AD) had ruler. His Governance latter is received from Basim. This show that, he donated a village in Nandikat (Hyderabad) area. He conquered Kuntal (South Maharashtra) are merged it with his kingdom. Thus his kingdom included South Berar, North Hyderabad and the district of Naagar, Nasik , Poona ans Satara.

After Vindhyashakti his son Pravarsen II became king, which reigned for about 12 years (400-415 AD). At the time of his death, his son , whose name is unknown was a minor.

The unknown ruler has a son Devasen, who ruled from 455 AD about 475 AD. In the article of Ajanta, there is mention of his worthy and experienced minister Hastibhoj. Harisen was the ruler after Devasen.
