Sanchi is a very small village on the banks of betwa river in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh state, India. There are many Buddhist monuments here, which date back to the 3rd century BC. Belong to the period between the twelfth century.
This temple built on the south-east side of the Mahastupa of Sanchi is called temple number 17. It is an early temple of gupta period, its size is small, the roof is flat, the sanctum is square and i front of it there is a small pillared Mandap. The columns have an hourglass and headings.
Temple number 17 is known as the Gupta period and is located in the south towards, sanchi has a small temple built for almost 4 centuries, and is an excellent example of simplicity and grandeur. The sanctuary courtyard is covered with stone masonry,which is very fine and clean,And the ceiling of the sanctum is slightly higher than the roof of the portico or hall, Through this provision is a safety measure of rainwater drainage and foundations.
The four pillars are more compact and well carved. This temple is indeed of excellent times and is marked by grace, unity, symmetry and glory very simple structure and carving and superb work is just on the joints of the roof and the beam.
An inverted lotus is placed in the vertical pillar, the main and small lions are seated at the back and a support between the roof and the pillar. The whole structure is simple, with no difficulty, While an archaeologist explained that the design is simple but to find out of that the design is very complex.
This temple is of early Buddhist temple and Gupta Period. Now there is no image in the rectangular sanctum. Sanchi is also considered a religious and architectural heritage. It is located just close to the great stupa, and other historical ruins are in the vicinity, each will delight visitors.
The Gupta temple was built in the 5th century AD. In fact, it is one of the earliest specimens of Indian architecture. The Gupta temple bears witness to the traditions of ancient India.
It is situated in a large complex consisting of a crown shelf, intermediate shelf and lower shelf, the temple is located in the intermediate level. The structure of the temple consists of a covered compartment as well as a pillar that extends over the entrance.
