There are 24 Tirthankars in Jainism. Tirthankara means – those who get enlightened, that is, they attain enlightenment through their tenacity. And the Sons compose a pilgrimage crossing the ocean, they are called Tirthankaras.
In Jainism, those persons, whom and the Mahatmas have been called as Tirthankar, who made changes, taught and enlightened the innumerable organisms to this world. The person who conquered his anger, pride, deceit and desire etc.
